Jamie founded Osborne Homestead Services to bring a higher standard of care to an industry that too often falls short. That standard is rooted in 17 years as a retired firefighter and paramedic — a background built on staying calm under pressure, following proper protocol, and treating every call with the gravity it deserves.

Technical Large Animal Emergency Rescue (TLAER)

Awareness / Operations Level — entire team certified.

TLAER is the nationally recognized training standard for large animal emergency response, covering trailer accidents, barn fires, natural disasters, loose livestock incidents, and the safe handling of large animals under adverse conditions. The Operations Level is hands-on, skills-based certification — not just a classroom course.

We don't just hold TLAER certifications — we host TLAER courses, bringing world-renowned instructor Dr. Rebecca Husted to the region so first responders, veterinarians, and horse owners across Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana can access this lifesaving training. To date, we've hosted two courses training 60 students. See our education page →

Why Licensing Matters

Transporting and disposing of deceased large animals is regulated by each state to protect public health, groundwater, and animal welfare. Unlicensed operators can expose grieving owners to legal liability, improper disposal, and unsafe handling practices.

Before hiring any deceased animal removal service, we encourage you to ask:

  • Are they licensed in your state for dead animal collection and transport?
  • Do they carry commercial liability insurance?
  • How do they physically move the animal? Winching or dragging can cause property damage and additional distress to witnesses.
  • Are they trained in large animal handling?

We're happy to provide copies of any of our licenses or insurance certificates on request.
